Flights of Fancy

I have been hard at work the last three months working on my latest show, Flights of Fancy. I think it turned out pretty good. It is a collection of my watercolor storybook illustration style work, lots of pieces that I have posted here and a few new ones. I also made glittery clouds that hang in the window, and added branches dripping with stars and sparkles. In the centre of the room, there is a plinth that has cute little moss-scapes. There’s so much glitter everywhere! The opening reception was really nice and well attended even with the rain. We had a lovely spread of food, with home-made mini cupcakes and banana bread, candy, lemon squares and cream puffs along with the usual crackers and cheese and stuff. Yum! Yum! Everyone seemed to like it. It was really awesome to see kids eyes light up when they see it. That makes me really happy!

oh and some mushrooms. The largest red on is the size of my hand! The single on is slightly larger than my thumb tip.

It’s spring!!!

I pulled out my bike today. Cleaned it up and took my first bike ride of the year. There is no green yet, but it is definitely spring. Look at this gorgeous burst of color against the dead grass stalks.

I think it is a Green Comma Butterfly. It was very obliging while I took pictures.

Oh and there were Canada Geese everywhere. I also saw a coot, some ducks and a lady bug.

Everything looks so dull and dead, but there is much life in there. I can’t wait until the grass starts growing.

I was making easter eggs and look who appeared!

It’s Admiral Ackbar! I always knew he was smart, but I did not realize that he was such an egghead…

This is another egg I made. I love how the colors are muted on brown eggs.

IF: Journey

Checking the theme for Illustration Friday today, I saw that it was the word “journey”. Then I turned around and saw that this painting I finished a couple of days ago fits perfectly! Yea! It’s going to be a part of an upcoming show of my illustrative watercolors and some installation pieces.

I am not going to say anything about it because I would like you to tell me the story that you see.

Yellow, Orange, Pink and Purple

Today is a Purple day, but I painted this purple plate yesterday on a Red day. Oh gasp! I still need to set the colors in the oven and then it will be dishwasher safe. Cool!

I colored this in Photoshop today (for yesterday’s Red day) and I made it look like a book cover. I also printed some (sans text) as greeting cards. They are on their way home in the morning after an awesome monster party.

Feb. 19: Gel and Souffle pens on brown paper, using scrapbooking sticky flowers as a stencil.

Feb. 18: I started adding some yellow bits to the green page from the day before. Never finished it though.

I love the look of brown paper drawings. I think I will do some more.

UPDATE: CRAP!!! I just realized that today was a green day, not a purple day!! Ha ha!

I keep making these mandala like snowflakes. They are fun and I can draw them while focusing on other things.

Purple Sketch

I spent the evening cleaning my art room, I guess it’s my studio but it’s really just an extra bedroom…anyhoo, it’s a disaster. There was only a little trail from the door to my chair. Pretty bad. So I started cleaning it up. I spent over an hour tidying up my beads alone. I go a little over board, but I love it when everything is in it’s place…which is not often. So it is looking good, but it will take a couple of days, maybe I will even unearth my jewellery bench! What this means is that I did not make anything for my purple day. So I did a quick sketch sitting right here at the computer. It is purple…
